Description
The seven pillars of wisdom in Proverbs 9:1–6 deal with preparing a meal.
Seven Pillars of Wisdom
- 1. Wisdom has selected a life to be slain.
- 2. She has chosen the wine.
- 3. Wisdom’s table has been furnished.
- 4. Her servants announce from the highest places of the city: “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
- 5. Her servants invite others to attend, including, “Him who lacks understanding.”
- 6. She commands: “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.”
- 7. Wisdom’s finale is: “Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding.”
These seven pillars have a vivid similarity to the Bible’s first account of Creation and the seven festivals of the Lord (the Jewish people’s seven annual festivals.
