1 review for Esther: Queen of Persia

  1. Mathew Bartlett

5 star “An Excellent Layman’s Commentary.” “Esther: Queen of Persia, by authors Matthew Bartlett and Derek Williams, is part of the Faith Builders Bible Study series. It has ten chapters aligning with the chapters in the Old Testament book of Esther. Esther: Queen of Persia reads like a layman’s Bible commentary. It avoids academic jargon common to many commentaries—making it more accessible to readers. It quotes each verse in the book of Esther and then offers brief comments. The comments help the reader understand the historical background, see how it aligns with the rest of Scripture, and gives application. At the end of each chapter, discussion questions are given to help the reader think more deeply about and further apply the content of the chapter. These questions are great reflections for one’s individual devotions but also would be great discussion starters for small groups.

This Bible study is useful, relevant, and needed—particularly because the average Christians’ understanding of the Old Testament is so minimal (and I’m including myself!). The easy reading style of this commentary and how it brings out relevant historical insights and applications will be very helpful to any student of Scripture. I highly recommend it and look forward to engaging with others books from the Faith Builders Bible Study series.” – Greg Brown on amazon.com
